Wade Phillips: Matthew Stafford ‘is a heck of a quarterback’
Zimmer’s style is to be straight and honest with his squad-they appreciate it and it doesn’t appear that he knows any other way.

The pass rushers who are beating him are coming from Stafford’s blind side, and have caused much of the carnage that is being done to his body. Fantasy Tip: Stafford has been bothered by injured ribs but has been able to practice. After an impressive home debut against the Detroit Lions, the Vikings look to keep the momentum rolling against their first AFC opponent of the season.
Following Sunday’s 26-16 victory over Detroit, Minnesota coach Mike Zimmer recalled a conversation last week with his mentor, Hall of Fame coach Bill Parcells.
The Vikings return to TCF Bank Stadium on Sunday to host San Diego and it sounds like part of their plan will be to get after the quarterback.
Stafford says he takes pride in his ability to stay on the field after there were doubts about his durability early in his career. Turner, who said the Vikings ran the same plays against Detroit they did against the 49ers, said Peterson has been doing extra conditioning this week. That’s No. 1 in the NFL.
As a rookie, though, Stafford showed how much grit he has during a game against Cleveland. They haven’t just been quick throws either, when Rivers has time he is able to find open receivers downfield for big gains. “I think we know what we have in that player and we like it”. “I think that was probably demonstrated his first year in the league”.
“It definitely worked out”, Peterson said about the mix. He did make a famous play in that infamous season of 2008, stepping out of the back of the end zone with no one near him to give the Vikings a safety in a 12-10 win.
“He’s really tough”, Zimmer said.
Last season, without Peterson, Bridgewater completed only 56.4 of his play-action attempts with a 3-to-5 touchdown-to-interception differential and a 63.8 passer rating. Those lackluster results lead to a QB rating that ranks 25th in the NFL. He was sacked just once, but absorbed eight quarterback hits.
It has taken me a few days of calming down, reading through message boards, and re-watching game film to come to these observations, but here is where I would like to offer my criticism.
Things aren’t likely to get any better against Denver, which boasts one of the best pass rushes in the league.
Stafford didn’t have wraps of any kind on either arm as he has in previous practices.

Stafford, though, joked he wasn’t hiding anything under his baggy hoodie when he talked with reporters. “I saw him in high school (at Highland Park High School in Dallas)”, Phillips said. Linebacker DeAndre Levy (hip) and tight end Brandon Pettigrew (hamstring) both continued to sit out.
