He did famously get involved when a group of four black young men and one who was Hispanic were accused of raping a woman in Central Park: He bought ads in NY papers calling for the death penalty. Her death was later confirmed by Wade in a tweet, which Trump has rather bizarelly taken as evidence that he will be more popular among Black voters.
On Friday, Aldridge was near the school, which is about a mile and a half southwest of the University of Chicago, when two males walked up and fired shots at a third man but hit Aldridge in the head and arm.
Police said Saturday afternoon that two “people of interest” were being questioned by detectives but no one has been charged in the shooting. “I think it just brings home the fact that nobody is safe”, said Fr. Michael Pfleger, of St. Sabina Church.
Trump later deleted the tweet and posted an update with Wade’s name spelled correctly, CNN reported.
Nykea Aldridge was pushing a baby stroller in the Chicago neighborhood of Parkway Gardens when she was shot and killed. “Just what I have been saying African-Americans will VOTE TRUMP!” I will fix it. African-Americans, Hispanics, vote for Donald Trump. “African-Americans will VOTE TRUMP!”, he tweeted Saturday morning.
Trump has had a penchant for using tragedies to illustrate his campaign’s message. “We’re going to try to help these people to transform their minds and give them a different direction”.
His mother, Chicago-based Baptist preacher Jolinda Wade, participated in an ESPN roundtable (“An Undefeated Conversation: Athletes, Responsibility, and Violence”) that focused on gun violence in Chicago. “This is something that didn’t start today, this is something that isn’t going to end tomorrow, this is something. hopefully, eventually we can stop it”. Aldridge’s family has planned a vigil at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Willie Mae Morris Empowerment Center, 12800 S. Halsted St., Chicago.

Taylor placed four stuffed animals, one for each of Aldridge’s children including a newborn baby, on a nearby tree that turned into a makeshift memorial on Saturday.
