Wade’s cousin’s death part of uptick in Chicago gun violence
CHICAGO (AP) – The fatal shooting of National Basketball Association star Dwyane Wade’s cousin in Chicago is part of a sharp uptick in gun violence in the nation’s third-largest city this year.

Aldridge, 32, was hit by stray bullets as she pushed her newborn in a stroller after enrolling one of her children in school, WLS-TV reported.
The alleged shooters in Aldridge’s case, Darwin Sorrells Jr., 26 and Derren Sorrells, 22, were both on parole for gun convictions, Chicago police said on Sunday. The Associated Press reports that two men have been charged in Aldridge’s death, both of whom “were on parole for prior criminal activity”.
Darwin Sorells Jr. admitted in a statement to police that he was armed and approached the apparent target of the shooting with a gun, according to court documents.
Ironically, just last week, Wade and his mother participated in a town hall meeting on ESPN that focused on violence in Chicago and urban communities.
Johnson explained that 1,400 people on the city’s “Strategic Subject List” are to blame for most of the gun violence that has claimed more than 435 lives so far this year. Had Aldridge not been related to him, it is unlikely her murder would have received so much attention. “We need more help & more hands on deck”.
Darwin Sorrells was sentenced to six years in prison in January 2013 on a gun charge and was released early on parole.
Wade was not at the vigil, but his mother Jolinda Wade, pastor of the New Creation Church, spoke and led a prayer before releasing purple balloons into the sky to honor her memory.
Over the weekend, the 51-year-old actor went on Twitter after the Republican presidential nominee tweeted about the death of Nykea Aldridge, the cousin of basketball player Dwayne Wade who was killed in crossfire in Chicago.
Wade, a native of Chicago’s south suburbs who signed with the Chicago Bulls in July, bemoaned what’s happening in some neighborhoods, saying “The city of Chicago is hurting”. Just what I have been saying.
Christie told ABC on Sunday that “if people want safer streets, they want police supported, then they should vote for Donald Trump because that’s what he’ll do”.
This is not the first time Wade’s family have been the victim of gun violence.
The baby was unharmed, but Nykea’s four children will grow up without a mother. “African-Americans will vote Trump”.
After a subsequent tweet correcting the spelling of Wade’s name, Trump (or someone on his staff) tweeted a message of condolence.
