Mexican Saul “Canelo” Alvarez will meet Gennady Golovkin in a Las Vegas super-fight after easing to a points win over compatriot Julio Chavez Jr.

“He’s a good fighter, but I’ve been taking care of my conditioning and training”, Chavez said.

De La Hoya, CEO of Golden Boy Promotions said the fight between Alvarez and Golovkin is, “signed, sealed and delivered”.

“I’m very happy that this fight is finally here”, Alvarez said through an interpreter.

Golovkin didn’t have to travel far to make the announcement as he watched Alvarez’s fight from ringside in Las Vegas. The battle to be.

Alvarez treated the lopsided bout as if it were a sparring session, even standing between rounds for the entire fight. “I showed as a fighter I could do all things”.

Golovkin is undefeated in 37 professional bouts and has won 33 times by knockout. After the fight, Chavez (50-3-1, 32 KOs) blamed new trainer Nacho Beristain for the loss, which elicited a chorus of boos and jeers from those who stayed to listen to his post-fight interview. “When he went to the ropes, I just didn’t have the strength to go after him and do some damage”, Chavez said.

Possible US venues for the September 16 bout include not only Vegas but also AT&T Stadium in suburban Dallas, home of the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys. “On my part that is what you’re going to see”. I couldn’t throw as many punches as I wanted. And the fact he went the distance was more a testament of thick whiskers than actual boxing prowess.

Alvarez’s victory against Chavez came courtesy of a unanimous decision, with all three judges scoring it 120-108 in his favour, giving him every round. “I consider myself a person who is mentally strong”. Right now, I think everyone is excited for September.

Golovkin’s WBA, WBC and IBF belts will be on the line against the 26-year-old Mexican.

Indeed Mayweather beat one of the protagonists competing tonight, Canelo, but the young Mexican has since improved greatly through the defeat and has proven himself time and time again since.
