In the 2014 holiday season, Walmart said that more than half of their seasonal employees stayed with the company as permanent employees.

The companies are looking for enthusiastic applicants and welcome multilingual speakers, with an emphasis on English, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian and Chinese, officials said.

Wal-Mart said Tuesday it will hire about 1,000 seasonal employees at its 82 stores in Mississippi for the holiday season. Salaries will be at a minimum of $9 an hour. Walmart says employees initially hired as seasonal workers often continue on to full-time employment and progress within the company.

For retailers, the time around the holidays is an exceptionally busy time and many hire seasonal help in order to compensate for the additional business.
