Authorities have responded to a Walmart in Amarillo, Texas, amid reports of an armed person inside the store “who may have hostages”, the Amarillo police said Tuesday. “There is no indication that this had anything to do with terrorism or the shooting that happened over the weekend in Orlando”, Hilton added.
Lt. Erick Bohannon Amarillo Police Department’s Special Crimes Coordinator said from the scene, “We did have an armed individual who had taken what we knew at the time to be one hostage”.
Police don’t believe he fired any other shots.
Two SWAT officers fired at Moghaddam. The command center is most likely for precautionary purposes and could be moved once the police are convinced the area is no longer in danger.
“At some point one of the hostages actually came out of the room that they were in and again knowing we only had one hostage the SWAT officers then began to move toward the doorway”, Lt. Bohannon said, “They actually saw another hostage in the room”. The Randall County Sheriff’s office later confirmed Moghaddam was killed inside the store.
The Amarillo Police Department released a brief statement late Tuesday afternoon identifying the suspect as 54-year-old Mohammad Moghaddam. His wife also worked at Walmart.

In a Facebook post, the sheriff’s office thanked everyone who helped ‘spread the word today during the intense hostage situation’. Nick thanked officers, saying, “This was a very hard situation and we are thankful for the quick response from law enforcement”. The shooter had taken hostages, but all of them have been rescued.
