The new owners paid $410 million to bring the brand out of Chapter 11 bankruptcy, leading to the reintroduction of the tasty treats.

In advance of that transaction closing Hostess has a new surprise for consumers. The AP reports Hostess, in collaboration with Walmart, is launching its own frozen line of Deep Fried Twinkies.
Deep-fried food fans don’t need to wait for the New York State Fair or a food festival to get their fix anymore.
Hostess’ new Deep Fried Twinkies, hitting stores Friday, has turned a state fair staple and culinary experimentation into a prepackaged snack for the masses.
The Deep Fried Twinkies will be exclusively sold at Walmart for three months starting August 16, before being available at other stores, Walmart announced in a company blog post.
The cream filled snack in vanilla or chocolate is battered and partially fried before being frozen.
According to The Associated Press, the prepackaged deep fried Twinkie, selling for $4.76, can be baked in an oven for six to eight minutes at 350 degrees but will cost the person eating them 220 calories that they will have to exercise off later.
Why is this a good idea?
The current trend in fast food has been to go outlandish.
I’ll let you know if they absorb beer well.
In this case, Wal-Mart and Hostess are taking a familiar product and serving it in a way people have heard about and maybe even tried, but have never been able to eat at home.

The deep fired version, also, unsurprisingly contains more fat and calories than a regular Twinkie. The response for the arrival of the fried Twinkies has been positive to put it mildly.
