Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (WMT) Climbed After Q1 Profit Surpassed Expectations
Shares of Dow member Wal-Mart Stores surged 9.0 percent to $68.86 in morning trade.

In contrast, Target appears to be headed in the other direction, posting its lowest growth since 2014 and projecting flat or declining sales for the coming year. The Company’s comparable store sales were also partially influenced by lower demand because of unfavorable weather during the quarter and benefited from the favorable consolidation impact from Carquest stores.

Analysts and investors are usually very focused on company earnings numbers when they are released. Wal-Mart has maintained that lifting wages will mean happier workers who will better serve the customers.
