Walcott was one of a number of Arsenal players in excellent form as the season ended.

He said: “My agent has talked to the club”.

“If it happens, it happens”.

Asked whether he would be happy if the talks carried on past the start of the upcoming campaign, he added: “Definitely”. It’s not in my thought process at all.

Theo Walcott, who is now negotiating a new contract with The Gunners as he enters it’s final year was played as a striker, and he opened the scoring latching on to an over the top through ball from mid-fielder Santi Cazorla in the 22nd minute. It’s well-documented where I want to play but there’s a lot of competition in that front line.

“I won’t let that delay affect the way I am playing”, he said.

The Arsenal manager would not elaborate when pressed, after Saturday’s Barclays Asia Trophy final, whether he was optimistic that Walcott would sign a new contract.

Although his last two seasons have not shown his full potential, Walcott shined in his limited action in the 2014-15 season with five goals in 14 Premier League appearances.

Despite his injury problems, the pacey attacker has much to offer Arsenal, and the Gunners would be wise to avoid letting him leave for nothing next summer.

“I didn’t want the season to end”.

Fluidity and adaptability will surely be imperative next time for Arsenal but, more valuable continue to, becomes the psyche of live being requested to position the department before such a broader priorities. It’s a really exciting year for myself personally and I think this team can go very far. That’s what a striker wants and I’ve been very happy with my goal record when given the opportunity. “That is all I can do”.

‘I enjoy playing for this club.

“I’ve been in a lot of squads and this is one of the best that I’ve been involved in”, the forward told his club’s site. I want to be part of that. “It’s my first pre-season for two years, I want to work really hard and make sure I’m in that starting line up come the first game of the season”.
