Wales boss left to rue semi-final suspensions

On a sour note for Wales, though, they will be without inspirational midfielder Aaron Ramsey in their semi-final in Lyon on Wednesday after he picked up a booking that has ruled him out of the match.

Wales came from behind to beat Belgium 3-1 in Lille and earn a clash against Portugal – Wales’ first major tournament semi-final.

While the Belgium boss has been pretty tactically inept, you would like to think the players would take some responsibility for their own poor performances.

“And if we make it to the final, that plane back will be empty”.

“It’s going to be Portugal against Wales, nothing else”, said Bale after the game.

But with the Real Madrid star set to face club-mate Cristiano Ronaldo in the last-four, Robson-Kanu believes the ex-Spurs man has the edge when it comes the world’s biggest stars.

“We have to continue with our work and stick to it”, Bale finished.

Wilmots said: “We have to replace entire back-line. We do it for them and for ourselves, we keep going”.

“But we’ve always spoken that this is our time to shine and we’ve definitely done that”.

“It’s going to be an awesome day [for the semi-final]”.

“All the players in the team can pass the ball so that’s what we tried to do, whether it’s Belgium or whoever”, Coleman added.

With Sam Vokes’ courageous header across goal, it signified Wales’ first semi-final in their debut at a European Championship tournament.

The win follows years in football’s global wilderness – Wales’s last appearance in a major football championship was the 1958 World Cup in Sweden.

“Obviously it is a blow because Ben and Aaron have started every game for us”, said West Brom centre-back Chester.

Asked after the full time whistle if Belgium needed a new coach after the already under-fire Wilmots failed to turn the match around, Courtois told Rtbf: “This was an opportunity we may not get again”. “We executed the plan to perfection and definitely deserved the victory”.

“We’ve grown in confidence, we’ve been learning from maybe mistakes we’ve made before”. “We knew we were coming up against a tough test tonight and they showed that”. We could have played better but I can’t really explain why we kept dropping off.
