The transfer is yet to be formally completed but Williams has been snapped signing Everton shirts for fans in Liverpool, with the pictures making their way onto Twitter.

With Manchester City confirming the signing of John Stones, 22, on Tuesday, Williams, 31, will slot in to Everton’s centre-back department with Phil Jagielka and Ramiro Funes Mori.

However, Swans skipper Williams is poised to pen a four-year deal at Goodison Park after Everton coughed up £10m for his services.

The defender added: “I look forward to seeing what the manager’s plans are for me and the team”.

Williams, who led Wales to the Euro 2016 semis, felt he needed a new challenge after eight successful years at Swansea.

The Wolverhampton-born Welsh worldwide signed for Swansea for £400,000 in 2008 having spent five years at Stockport.

“Ash is one of the best defenders we have ever had, if not the best”, Curtis said.

Williams made 36 league appearances for Swansea as they finished 12th last season. “It is definitely not something we wanted to happen”, he told the club’s website.
