Walk to End Alzheimer’s in Northern Virginia – Source patch

Gardiner, 23, has been made volunteer chairperson for the first Staten Island Walk to End Alzheimer’s, scheduled to take place Sunday at 9 a.m.at South Beach between Seaview Avenue and Father Capodanno Boulevard.

According to the Alzheimer’s Association, Alzheimer’s is the 5th leading cause of death in Iowa and 6th in the nation.

Monday was World Alzheimers Day and to mark the event new research by the Office of Health Economics was released which showed 27% of boys born in 2015 will develop the condition in their lifetime.

Along with the walk, people can enjoy activities and entertainment as well as a tribute for those who have experienced or are experiencing Alzheimer’s.

Hunter said that prior to the onset of Alzheimer’s, her mother had been very stylish and fashionable. “She didn’t even know she had Alzheimer’s, we didn’t even know”.

This year, the Central and North Florida Chapter hopes to raise approximately $121,000 for community programs and research in Brevard County to help families and their loved ones manage through this healthcare epidemic.

Butler said she hopes people realize how important the event is.

Boever’s daughter says when her grandmother had the disease, there was no treatment. “Now, Jim’s Team walks in his memory and to match our steps with hundreds of family, friends, and neighbors who share our passion to end Alzheimer’s”.

Dr. Margo Karsten, CEO of Cheyenne Regional Medical Center gave a speech and led the walk around the park along with former Secretary of State for Wyoming Max Maxfield.

“Owatonna in Support of Alzheimer’s is the backbone of this walk”, Eddy said.

“I was a member of Owatonna in Support of Alzheimer’s”, she said.

Finally, there is interest in increasing the intake of omega-3 fatty acids found especially in cold water fish, flax and walnuts, based on findings that these fatty acids were low in individuals with Alzheimer’s disease, and that in some (but not all) studies, supplementing diets with them improved cognitive functioning.

Butler said her family began walking for Caroline Sammon of Owatonna four years ago in Mankato.

“We are really excited to have local sponsors this year”, Mauch said.

“It’s given us all something to pull together on”, he said.

“The funds need to come because without funds there’s no research, and without research, there is no cure”, she said.

The Alzheimer’s Association estimates 5.3 million Americans of all ages now have the disease. According to Alzheimer’s Australia, there are more than 342,800 people are suffering with loss of brain cells in Australia, this count is expected to reach 900,000 by 2050.

The Walk to End Alzheimer’s in Owatonna joins more than 600 others nationwide with the mission “to eliminate Alzheimer’s disease through the advancement of research; to provide and enhance care and support for all affected; and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health”.
