Walk to School Day October. 7

Walk to School Day was first held in Bartlesville in 2009, thanks to a grant awarded by the Oklahoma Department of Transportation to the City of Bartlesville to help out the event.

“International Walk to School Day is a big day at FedEx”, said Tabatha Stephens, manager of FedEx Global Charitable Giving.

Last year, more than a hundred kids from Manzanita took place in the event.

This year, students from 44 Brevard Schools will be walking to school with family members, teachers, and community leaders. Over time, this event has become part of a movement for year-round safe routes to school and a celebration – with record breaking participation – each October. “By walking (and biking) with them we can show children how to walk or bike safely and demonstrate that it has benefits that are great, for our health and the environment”.

Then continue that event throughout the remainder of the school year.

Roosevelt Elementary: Cocoa Beach Mayor Dave Netterstrom, Commissioners Tim Tumulty, Mike Miller and Ben Malek will have to walk pretty fast to keep up with the special guest at this school.

It’s also a chance for students to put recent lessons into practice. NASCAR Xfinity Series Driver Scott Lagassee Jr. will be joining the students for their walk to school.

Students in Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) will participate in worldwide Walk to School Day on Wednesday, October 7, in an effort to promote physical activity and reduce traffic congestion and pollution near schools.
