Walker rallies to take lead after third round of PGA Championship

The fourth round began at 8:40 a.m. ET, meaning some players were completing the third while the fourth round was already underway. That means players will be able to lift, clean and place their balls anywhere but the rough.

The last five groups did not make it out onto the course on Saturday before an approaching thunderstorm forced play to be suspended at 2:15pm local time (7:15pm BST).

“Just started feeling more comfortable with the golf swing”, Walker said after two bogeys in the first five holes.

“I probably played my best on Thursday and shot the worst score, which is interesting”. “I’m happy with my swing, getting a lot better with my putting, getting a lot better with my mental side. Keep the pedal down'”.

He rebounded with birdies on the fifth and ninth holes to turn in 10 under. Bogey-free, he had only two other birdies on the day, including 18, where he got up and down from the bunker for his only birdie on a par 5 hole so far this week.

Jimmy Walker cured his early hiccups and finished the third round of the PGA Championship still atop the leaderboard in search of a wire-to-wire victory.

“I went a stretch of eight holes without a birdie and I needed one to get some motivation for the fourth round”, Day said. “But I played some nice golf out there”.

Henrik Stenson is attempting to win his second major championship of the year.

“We just didn’t really know what was going on with the weather, but thankfully it let up and I’m glad we got the third round in”, said Day, who is looking to become only the second player after Tiger Woods to successfully defend the title since it became a strokeplay event. He’s played spectacularly in 2016 and has a fantastic chance to win his second career major on the PGA Tour.

Unlike the British Open two weeks ago, this is hardly a two-man race. Koepka is playing in his first event since the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational due to a nagging ankle injury. A big week by Koepka could all but clinch a spot on his first Ryder Cup team.

Patrick Reed also wasted a good opportunity, making double bogey on the sixth hole and shooting 70 to finish six shots behind.

The last time the PGA was held at Baltusrol, it had a rain delayed Monday finish with Phil Mickelson winning the title. Any stoppage in play was sure to mean one more day before the Wanamaker Trophy is handed out.

Jimmy Walker rallied on the back nine with four birdies and shot a 2-under-par 68 Sunday to take a 1-stroke lead over defending champion Jason Day at the conclusion of the third round of the rain-delayed PGA Championship at Baltusrol Golf Club. Grillo shot 73 in the third round and is seven shots off the lead at 4-under 206.
