Walker’s RBI double in 14th lifts Pirates over Tiger 5

The Detroit Tigers are coming off their second straight series win and have now won 5 out of 7. He’s much more of a control pitcher but still has the breaking ball to get the swing and miss.

Pittsburgh Pirates’ Neil Walker rounds the bases after hitting a two-run home run against the Detroit Tigers during the third inning of a baseball game Wednesday, July 1, 2015, in Detroit.

The Tigers are now back to. Remarkably, one scored. And only two others scored despite 13 baserunners in his first five innings. “You’ve got to go deep if you want to win games”. Corbin threw his fastball considerably harder, increased his whiff rate from 9.4 to 11.5 percent, yet only grew his K/9 ratio from 7.2 to 7.7.

The Tigers come in off a decent 4-2 stretch but need to do better against non-AL Central teams. Simon gave up two hits without allowing a run in each of the first two innings, but Pittsburgh erupted for seven hits and five runs in the third to take a 5-1 lead.

Thursday, though, he shut them down for seven innings, not allowing a Tiger to get past second base.

On Tuesday night, they had several chances to do it again, this time against the Pittsburgh Pirates, but came up short. “But I knew I was just a tick out front”. The Pirates will start 38-year-old righthander A.J. They, too, struggled scoring runners, going 2-for-16 with 19 men left on base.

The Tigers took two of three from the Pirates when these teams met up in the Motor City back in April.

“He saved his best curveball for his last pitch of the game”, manager Clint Hurdle of the Pirates said.

Cole (11-3, 2.16) went six strong innings, allowing three hits on one run and picked up the victory after the Pirates survived a near bullpen collapse in their home opener against the Tigers.

Tigers manager Brad Ausmus was ejected in the fifth inning by home-plate umpire Sam Holbrook for arguing a called third strike on J.D. Martinez. “I’ve got no respect for anyone on that team, including Cole and their coaching staff. Because if they think Verlander hit Marte with a 1-2 count – he was battling in that at-bat and Verlander ended up hitting him – if they really think we did it on goal, they’re playing the wrong sport”.

The Pirates took the lead in that inning despite a massive baserunning mistake. Tigers right-hander Joba Chamberlain gave up three solo home runs in the eighth.

Gibson (6-6) stranded a pair of runners in the eighth before turning the lead over to Glen Perkins, who remained flawless in 26 save attempts.

In the fourth, he doubled off of David Price and got an extra 90 feet courtesy of a Yoenis Cespedes error.

The Venezuelan had to face two countrymen to finish it. Miguel Cabrera singled to move Ian Kinsler to second with one out, but Victor Martinez hit into a game-ending double play.

Pirates: OF Corey Hart, who has been sidelined since June 22 with a left shoulder injury, began a rehab assignment Tuesday with Triple-A Indianapolis.

The Pittsburgh Pirates and Detroit Tigers play game two of their series Wednesday night. Avila has been out since May 8. Left-hander Tom Gorzelanny (1-2), the seventh reliever used by Detroit, saw his outside 3-2 delivery rifled down the right field line and Harrison trotted home easily from second and make a victor of right-hander Deolis Guerra (1-0), the sixth reliever employed by Pittsburgh.
