While a few retailers have been downplaying Black Friday – outdoor-gear seller Recreational Equipment Inc.is closing that day – the event remains one of the busiest shopping days of the year.

The company also said it expects profit to fall as much as 12 percent in its next fiscal year as spending on e-commerce operations and higher wages squeeze the bottom line. Give it to me all at one time, ‘ ” said Steve Bratspies, Wal-Mart U.S.’s chief merchandising officer.

Walmart has consolidated its Black Friday shopping strategy by keeping it simpler than in previous years. In order to simplify the Black Friday experience in-store (and help manage the madness for employees and fellow customers alike), Walmart is also banishing the staggered doorbusters it used to offer throughout the day, according to USA TODAY.

Black Friday: 6 a.m.to 9 p.m. Most of the deals will be available on both online and in-stores, which is slated to roll out as early as 6PM on Thanksgiving Day.

REI’s decision to go dark on Black Friday doesn’t mean there aren’t good deals to be found from the outfitter.

There is no denying the fact that the one hour guarantee deal is very attractive for all the Walmart shoppers as they can be sure that they will get the product within one hour if they are able to sneak into the retailer’s stores before the time is up. About half of millennials say they’ll be using their phone to shop this holiday season, and retailers are figuring out how to take advantage of that.

About 96 per cent of store deals offered on the holiday will be offered online, starting at 3.01am Eastern Time on Thanksgiving Day, and in stores starting at 6pm. “Now it is a ‘Black Month of Discounts.’ This year stores are more desperate than ever…you will be astonished with the discounts that will come out”.

Obviously theres consumer backlash, but retailers wouldnt do it if it wasnt beneficial from a sales and profitability perspective, said Mary Brett Whitfield, senior vice president at Kantar Retail, an analytics and consulting firm.
