Wal-Mart, based in Bentonville, Arkansas, has been offering the service in roughly 150 stores in 22 markets.
To use the service, consumers fill their basket online, using their computer or mobile app. Orders placed by 10 a.m. are available for pickup the same day.
The company does not charge for this service and offers the same everyday low prices found in its stores.
Mega grocery retailer Wal-Mart plans to bring curbside grocery pickup to its Wal-Mart Supercenter location near Kiln Creek in Newport News. Kroger charges US$4.95 (RM19.28) per order after the first three orders. Wal-Mart workers load the customer’s auto. He said the service was very popular among mothers with children who like having groceries delivered to their trunk without having to leave the auto.
Wal-Mart says more than 30,000 fresh groceries, baby products and household items can be ordered online and picked up at the participating stores. In addition to Daphne, new locations include Kansas City; Boise, Idaho; Richmond and Virginia Beach, Va.; Austin, Texas; Provo, Utah; and Charleston, S.C. Buyers don’t even have to enter the store: According to promotional information, they can simply pull into a designated parking area at the specified time, and their groceries will be loaded into their auto.

Bender said the “personal shoppers” are getting to know their customers, such as how ripe they like their bananas, and sees grocery pickup as one way to “help change the perception of the service at Wal-Mart”.
