Walmart promotes free shipping ahead of Amazon’s ‘Prime Day’

Prime Day was first held in July 15 past year in celebration of Amazon’s 20th anniversary.

In 2015, Amazon generated more sales on Prime Day than on Black Friday, a day which officially kicks of the year-end shopping season in the United States.

So how can you get in on the savings?

“Last year we said, Well, let’s just make sure we have as many deals as Black Friday, or more deals than Black Friday”.

Amazon bills Prime Day as a sort of Black Friday in July – one big blowout day for tons of deals and savings.

Walmart countered e-commerce giant Amazon’s “Prime Day” with its own new promotion: free shipping with no minimum purchase on all online orders.

Aside from the items mentioned above, Amazon will also run several giveaways like $5,000 worht of Amazon gift cards if you upload a photo on its Prime photos service.

According to Amazon, there will be over 100,000 deals worlwide.

Amazon offers a 30-day free trial – but you must do not forget to cancel your account before the trial expires or else you’ll be charged full membership prices automatically. A year ago it broke Black Friday records with nearly 400 sales a second. Amazon is promising to up its game this year. The lightning deal is available for a limited time, a few hours at most. The deals will last throughout the day, with new ones being posed as often as every five minutes, the company says. The company says customers will like Spotlight Deals as you’ll find they are the best of the day. Walmart is countering Prime Day with a sale of its own.

Deals can also be ordered through Amazon Echo, Echo Dot or Amazon Tap, which all have the company’s voice recognition software, Alexa, built in.

If you’re in the United Kingdom you can download and sign in to the official Amazon app on mobile/tablet for Android or iOS before 11:59pm on July 12, Amazon will gift you a £5 promo code within 30 days.

Amazon expects its second annual Prime Day event to be bigger than last year’s, Reuters reports.

Customers with Prime memberships are the only ones who can take advantage of the deals.
