Warner Brothers files for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child trademark
However, Conway followed up his original post by explaining that while trademark applicants can file a “just in case” registration, the law says that they should only do so if they have some intention of creating something with it.

However, a request to trademark the West End play registered by the film’s makers sparked rumours of a film version. Yes, it’s a play – and sort of a book, but the book is essentially the play’s script packaged neatly – and Rowling has insisted that there won’t be a film adaptation for the new narrative set 19 years after the final book. JK Rowling, however, has stated multiple times that the play would remain just that as it would not be made into a movie.
The fact that Warner Bros has filed for a Class 9 trademark is significant, though, and should not be ignored.
Author J.K. Rowling has been doing the same thing as Warner Bros since past year, but her Cursed Child trademarks may have more to do with merchandise than anything else.
The trademark application was shared online by Brian Conroy.
Please note that this is by no means confirmation that there will be Cursed Child film(s), and that Warner Bros.is probably too busy with the upcoming Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them movie trilogy to jump-start the continuation of the Harry Potter theatrical installments.
Warner Bros are not stopping there. However, it may now be looking at making its way from the stage onto the big screen.

Rowling has previously denied the play is becoming a film (although some have pointed out that her wording doesn’t necessarily rule out it becoming a film in the future). And Warner Brothers could always film a performance of the play to be shown at movie theaters in North America and other places for the benefit of people who can’t get tickets.
