Britain will be battening down the hatches for three months of storms, with predictions of strong wind and rain bringing the unusually clement November weather to a crashing end.
“There is a possibility of temporary, small amounts of settling snow even at low levels away from eastern coastal counties of England, though most areas should miss this”, it added.
By Sunday, the wind will have changed direction and bring with a milder weather and sunshine, though it will still be breezy.
“With that cold air coming the region will see a few wintery showers of rain, sleet and snow”.
The freeze is not out of the norm for this time of year, says the Met Office.
The German Weather Service (DWD) forecast for the coming weekend.
Met Éireann forecaster Louise Heraghty said it would be another blustery day today with showers in most areas.
Wind gusts up to 60mph are likely, with a lower likelihood of 60 to 70 mph gusts, though in any one area, the strongest winds will last for only a few hours clearing last from southeastern areas of England.
The alert is in place for between 5pm on Friday and 3pm on Saturday.
However, many places inland will avoid showers and experience sunny spells.
