Senate Democrats are planning an all-night session in a last-ditch effort to try and stop President Trump’s nominee for secretary of education, Betsy DeVos, from being confirmed.

Last week two Republicans, Sens. The stage is now set for a final vote on Tuesday, even while Murray fights to change Republican’s minds. Democrats need to secure just one more vote against DeVos to defeat her nomination. At this point, DeVos would be confirmed by a 51-50 margin, with Vice President Mike Pence being the tie-breaker.
Murray argues that Trump pick for education secretary, Betsy DeVos, is unfit for the job.
Critics of DeVos say her lack of experience as an educator makes her unqualified for the position, and her policies will destroy traditional public schools.
The all-night session comes after enormous disapproval to DeVos’ nomination from citizens across the country due to her lack of education experience, disdain for public schools, and previous investments in public and charter schools.
The National Education Association has come out against the nomination, claiming that DeVos “has consistently pushed a corporate agenda”.
DeVos is a billionaire Republican donor and a long-time advocate of charter schools.

“Someone more interested in results rather than paying homage to and feeding the education establishment here in Washington D.C.”, said Texas Senator John Cornyn.
“If just one more of my Republican colleagues were to announce their opposition, were to vote no, we could do the right thing and tell President Trump that he really needs to find a new candidate”, she said.
“Her views are extreme”, Schumer said. Other Republican senators Democrats had hoped to flip, like Dean Heller of Nevada, Pat Toomey of Pennsylvania and Shelley Moore Capito of West Virginia, said last week they will support DeVos.

Despite Democratic opposition, DeVos’ confirmation is considered a sure thing without a major last-minute turnaround.
