Warriors agree to deal with Anderson Varejao

CBS Sports reported that the defending champions are “considering signing” the soon-to-be free agent big man and that his Brazilian national team teammate Leandro Barbosa may influence the squad to sign him up.

The Warriors on Sunday reached agreement with veteran forward/center Anderson Varejao, who will provide depth in their suddenly thin frontcourt. Varejao will don Golden State colors after spending 10 seasons in Cleveland, reveals the Bleacher Report.

Golden State was in need of a big man with key backup center Festus Ezeli out at least another six weeks following knee surgery.

Chris Haynes of Cleveland.com also released a message from the player saying that the content Varejao has signed a deal with the Warriors.

Varejao was dealt to Portland on Thursday before the league’s annual trade deadline as part of a three-team swap that landed Channing Frye with the Cavaliers.

“For the last 12 years, I have had the honor of representing the city of Cleveland and the Cavaliers organization, and for that I will forever be grateful”, Varejao posted on Facebook.

For his career, Varejao has averaged 7.6 points and 7.5 rebounds. “I don’t even know, am I allowed to even mention his name?” This season, Varejao has averaged just 2.6 points and 2.9 rebounds in 10 minutes per game, playing 31 games thus far.

Golden State has to be very happy getting a piece like Varejao to add to their puzzle as well.

Golden State waived Jason Thompson according to Spears – to make room for Varejao on the roster. Bogut is listed as questionable to play in Monday’s game against the Atlanta Hawks because of a strained right Achilles that forced him to miss the Warriors’ win against the Los Angeles Clippers on Saturday.
