Warriors’ quest for 73: Will Golden State win out?
In order to pick up 73 wins, which would set the record, the Warriors need to win the rest of their games.

After losing two out of their last three – and one of those to a team who won’t trouble the NBA Play-Offs – people were beginning to ask if this team could get over the 70-game hump and beat the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls’ vaunted record of 72 wins in a season. But it is the best solution for Kerr and the Warriors with just three games left in the regular season. He adds later, “If we win a championship, when we win a championship this year, I’m pretty sure [70 wins] is going to rank right up there in the top three [accomplishments]”.
Green added that “most guys in the locker room are all-in”, but they’ll determine how they’ll rest players over the weekend. Before the two teams reconvene in San Antonio on Sunday, the Spurs play in Denver on Friday night and the Warriors will be in Memphis on Saturday night.
-Q: Straight to it, Coach Kerr said he’d talk to you guys regarding the record and resting since you just clinched the 1 seed.
“We wanted to come out (against the Spurs) and be able to have the opportunity to show we’re a team”, he said.
The West could also see some significant movement in the standings and numerous projected postseason matchups could change. “In ’96 we were trying to get to 70, we have to get to 73”.
Reigning MVP Stephen Curry said the Warriors aren’t finished yet.
The Spurs made five of six shots to start the fourth quarter to pull within 93-80, but the Warriors quickly rebuilt the lead to 18 points and cruised home. Like the Warriors, the Spurs have not lost consecutive games all season, a feat that has never been accomplished in National Basketball Association history…. Stephen Curry scored 27 points as the Warriors opened up a 12 point lead and built on that.
Barnes’ line: season-high-tying 21 points (8-of-13, 3-of-7) and eight rebounds.
Kawhi Leonard scored 23 points to lead the Spurs, who played all of their regulars. Should the Warriors lose in San Antonio, they’ll certainly rest everyone for the final game of the season. When Curry was on the bench, the Spurs rallied repeatedly, but seemingly every time they seemed to get momentum – particularly in the first half – Barnes had an answer with a big jumper or a corner 3-pointer. “They are not a normal team”.
If the Bulls fall short, it would mark the first time since 2008 that they have missed the post-season.
The Golden State Warriors are on the verge of history. But as soon as Aldridge touched the ball, the finger again popped out.
“It freaked me out”. I looked down and it was going the other direction. “It didn’t feel right the whole night, but I’ll be OK”.

When Golden State’s offense is clicking like this, there’s not a single team in the Association that can stop it. Even going up against a Spurs squad that ranks first in the NBA in points allowed (92.5 heading into Thursday), the Warriors proved to be superior.
