Warriors re-sign center Anderson Varejao

The 6-11 big man spent 11 full seasons with the Cavaliers before being dealt to the Trail Blazers on February 18 in a three-team deal that involved the Magic, who sent Channing Frye to the Cavs.

Cleveland.com reported that Varejao will not receive a ring from the Cavs unless he wants one, which is all good and well, because Varejao won’t take one anyways.

It looks like Cleveland Cavaliers management won’t have to make the tough decision on whether or not to give Anderson Varejao a championship ring.

The Blazers unloaded a second-round pick to get a first-round pick and Varejao, who was immediately released.

There’s no hard rule regarding whether players traded midseason receive championship rings, but typically teams will offer them.

Varejao, 33, appeared in 22 regular-season games with the Warriors last season, averaging 2.6 points and 2.3 rebounds in 8.4 minutes. In doing so, he became the first-ever player in National Basketball Association history to play for both Finals teams in the same season.

And according to Sam Amico, Varejao will reject Cleveland’s championship ring. That distinction technically guaranteed him a chance to obtain a ring. However, even if they do decide they want him to have a ring as a member of the 2015-16 team, it sounds like Varejao will decline the offer. Golden State assembled a superteam this month when they added Kevin Durant to a lineup that has made the Finals twice in two years, winning it all once.
