Warriors coach Steve Kerr during the team’s White House visit discussed with President Barack Obama not only their beloved 1990s Chicago Bulls championship teams, but also gun control.
“Dub Nation is well represented here”, President Barack Obama has said, noting that the Golden State Warriors fans House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, a Democrat, and Representative Kevin McCarthy (R-Ca) were in present in the GSW’s memorable moment.
The Warriors beat Lebron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers in last year’s National Basketball Association finals and are off to a historically strong start in their quest to repeat, with a 45-4 record so far this season.
The White House also tweeted a photo of the Golden State Warriors players all dressed up for their visit. However, none of which will be counted on Luke Walton’s officials National Basketball Association record due to the league rules that credit wins and losses to the team’s head coaches only.
President Barack Obama strode into a room thick with humanity, a broad bank of cameras dominating the back and at least a score of photographers, mini-ladders in tow, ringing the side reserved for standing-room only observers.
This was the last time Obama would be able to congratulate an National Basketball Association championship team in the White House and he clearly enjoyed every minute of it.
‘Steph’s a pretty good shooter, ‘ Obama said – an understatement that drew laughs from the crowd of reporters. “He was clowning”, Obama said.
“Consider this a symbol of an offer that’s coming”, Kerr said as he presented Obama with the jersey and the president demonstrated his shooting form.
Kerr’s father, Malcolm, was only 54 years old when he was shot and killed in 1984 by gunmen in Lebanon, where he served as president of the American University of Beirut.
