Was Anakin Skywalker Supposed To Be In Star Wars: The Force Awakens?
The ongoing popularity of Star Wars: The Force Awakens set a new Monday takings record this week, when it pulled in an additional $40.1 million in the US and Canada, easily surpassing the $27.2 million Spider-Man 2 grossed over Independence Day holiday in 2004.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens is a huge hit, and given the proximity of its release to that of Star Wars Battlefront-November 17 for Battlefront, December 18 for TFA-you’d think that some part of the new film would eventually make its way to the game. Internationally, the seventh Show star Wars has topped $400 million, bringing its global box workplace receipts to $793.5 million. At this pace, the movie will cross the $1 billion mark sometime over Christmas weekend, or in 12 days or less.
“Star Wars” is officially back in everyone’s good graces, with “The Force Awakens” turning out to be a nigh-universal crowd pleaser the likes of which we haven’t seen from the series since, well, before 1999.
Starring Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher in lead roles, the trailer of the film had already received applauds. The current record holder is Jurassic World (13 days), which had the benefit of opening day and date in China.
Filmgoers revelled in the return to the “Star Wars” galaxy, dressing as Jedi or Sith, carrying lightsabers and cheering when classic characters such as Princess Leia or Chewbacca appeared on screen.
Abrams’ life-long friend Greg Grunberg – who also has a minor role in The Force Awakens as X-wing fighter Snap Wexley – said that the director recently read the script for Episode VIII and said something highly unusual, for him: that he “wished” he had written it. The Fox movie stayed at No. 2, grossing $3.4 million from 3,653 locations for a six-day domestic total of $24.7 million.
The power of “Star Wars” meant the rest of the week’s releases were competing for second place.

Holdovers, “Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip” and the Amy Poehler and Tina Fey comedy “Sisters” were just ahead, pulling in $3.4 million and $2.5 million, respectively.
