Was David Bowie’s Blackstar named after a cancer lesion?
Coming just two days after his birthday, and the release of what would be his final album, Blackstar, the news of his passing seemed especially shocking. “Bowie made so many great albums, constantly reinventing himself, that everyone has their own favourites and fans are clearly reminding themselves of his massive contribution to popular music by paying these great, iconic works”.

“I just had a woman at the counter a moment ago who was crying and saying all of her fondest memories of the 80s were David Bowie music, ” Ms Broomfield said.

David Bowie’s close friend has told how the star was feeling “optimistic” about a new cancer drug just weeks before his death.
Tony Vistonti, a producer, collaborator and friend of Bowie, extolled his final album as evidence of his unwavering originality and ability to surprise.
“David Bowie died peacefully today surrounded by his family after a courageous 18 month battle with cancer”, read the official announcement on Facebook on Monday.
DAVID Bowie will be remembered at this year’s Brit Awards with a fitting tribute.
The star, who died aged 69 on Sunday, said it was “terrific” he had the opportunity to do what he loved as a career. “It was immediately clear it was very serious”, says van Hove, who kept his promise and didn’t disclose the information to anyone else before Bowie’s death.
Fans have interpreted the timing of the release, as well as the melancholy and even morbid themes of the album’s music, as the artist’s way of foreshadowing his imminent death. I knew for a year this was the way it would be.
