Responding to a poser if the investigators had dropped the terrorism angle in the murder, Chowdhary said, “We are looking into terrorism issue as well”. There are grounds for both professional as well as personal motive. Police sources also revealed that the conspiracy to kill NIA Deputy SP Mohammad Tanzil was hatched in his village Sahaspur.
Police received a tip-off in the case on Wednesday, after which they raided the hideouts of the suspects in Bijnor, Aligarh, Sambhal and Bulandshahar districts, a senior officer said. The Police officials investigating in the case have termed the murder as a planned attack on the NIA official.
It is also suspected that property dispute could be one of the reasons behind Tanzil’s murder. There are indications that something went wrong in this regard. “There are certain things which are indicating towards a personal matter”, Daljeet Singh Chaudhary, Additional Director General (Law and Order), said.
Another official added that Ahmed’s family itself owns significant agricultural land. “We are also searching for a woman who was allegedly involved in the crime”, a police officer said.
According to sources, Rihan, son of Ahmed’s brother-in-law was riding motorcycle, while the other bike-borne assailant, Munir, allegedly fired shot at the officer.
