Was the U.S.-North Korea summit a success?

Glassner said Trump is expected to discuss the summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, as well as the economy and low unemployment rates.

Former President Donald Trump advisor Steve Bannon gives a press conference during the French far-right Front National (FN) party annual congress, March 10, 2018, at the Grand Palais in Lille, north of France. In recent weeks he was welcomed to Beijing and Seoul, and invited to Moscow. It could impose even stricter sanctions, to which China and Russian Federation are unlikely to sign up.

‘I said I’d like to halt it … it costs us a lot of money.

“Kim is clever. He is using this moment to sanitize his global image”, she said.

Nevertheless, South Korea’s presidential office Cheong Wa Dae on Saturday called Trump’s announcement “very important progress” in US-North Korea ties. And he didn’t even inform the Seoul government beforehand, leaving it publicly grasping for information on US intentions.

“I went there and gave him credibility – I think it’s great to give him credibility”.

‘When I came in people thought we were probably going to war with North Korea.

Slightly more than two in three Republicans (68 per cent) now say it is likely that North Korea will dismantle its nuclear programme completely, an increase of 29 percentage points since April.

The two leaders signed a document pledging to work towards complete denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula.

“I mean he’s the strong head, don’t let anyone think anything different”.

What does Trump have on offer to induce Kim to end the lifetime of hostility? “North Korea is the only country in the world that executes people for making unauthorized worldwide phone calls”.

True, Kim has frozen his nuclear tests and missile tests – for now.

But Trump recalled that when he came to office previous year, his predecessor Barack Obama had warned that North Korea’s growing missile and nuclear threat was the United States’ “most risky problem”.

As leader of a country with a per capita income smaller than Haiti’s, Kim is being told he must surrender the weapons that placed him and North Korea in the world’s most exclusive club, to which only eight other nations belong: the U.S., Russia, China, Britain, France, India, Pakistan and Israel.

For years, China has propped up the North Korean economy in the face of worldwide pressure, anxious about a possible collapse of the Kim regime, which it sees as a strategic buffer against the U.S. military presence in South Korea.

The summit did result in a shift in attitudes on the question of whether North Korea will ever give up its nuclear weapons.

When Baier pointed out Kim’s regime imprisons, tortures and kills his own people, Trump replied, “Yeah, but so have other people done some really bad things”.

Kyodo News reported Thursday that Fumio Shimizu, deputy director general at the Foreign Ministry’s Asian and Oceanian Affairs Bureau, met this week with a North Korean official affiliated with the “disarmament and peace research institute” at Pyongyang’s foreign ministry. Much easier to insult a democratic prime minister like Justin Trudeau.

Trump drew some criticism after the summit for appearing to make concessions without getting much in return. In 1992, 1994, and 2005, the North Koreans pledged to eliminate all their nuclear weapons. Trump also has embraced his presidential clemency powers as a mechanism to help some loyalists, personally undoing judgments of the judicial system that he considers unfair.

Who wouldn’t cheer avoiding nuclear war?

Kim persuaded Trump to end the US annual joint military exercises with South Korea and even got Trump to call them “war games&#148 and “provocative&#148
