State Patrol spokesman Sergeant Mark Francis named the suspect as Arcan Cetin, a 20-year-old resident of the nearby town of Oak Harbor, saying he was arrested about 24 hours after the killings.
Cetin – an immigrant from Turkey – is a legal permanent resident of the United States and lives in Oak Harbor, according to police. The suspect did not attempt to run when confronted by police, Lt. Mike Hawley of the Island County Sheriff’s Office said. “So I whipped a real quick U-turn and hit the lights, pulled my gun, and he was under arrest”.
There’s still far too much we don’t know about this story to jump to conclusions.
“I saw an individual walking northbound on the sidewalk and I instantly recognized that it was the person I just viewed on my computer”, said Hawley. “Just kind of zombie-like”.
It was confirmed at 2am on Saturday that Sarai was among the five people killed. A man who was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries died overnight, Francis said in a statement early on Saturday morning.
The suspect “fired multiple times, struck four females ranging in age from a teenager to seniors”, said Mount Vernon police Lt. Chris Cammock.
Authorities had said that a rifle had been found at the shooting scene.
In the coming days, authorities said they planned to flesh out the timeline of Cetin’s alleged actions.
C_is expected to appear in court on Monday. Police also reviewed surveillance footage from other nearby businesses and were able to identify a suspect auto. Police had arrested Cetin late September 24 without incident in Oak Harbor, Washington, southwest of Burlington where the shooting occurred September 23.
A judge told Cetin Dec. 29 he could not possess a firearm, according to the Times.
A motive for the shooting is still unknown as police continue their investigation.
Seattle television station KOMO reported on Twitter that the suspect had been captured in Oak Harbor, a community about 30 miles southwest of Burlington where the mall shooting occurred on Friday.
About 10 minutes later, he appeared on surveillance video with a rifle and started shooting in the makeup department of the Macy’s store. Authorities say Cetin was apprehended Saturday evening.
Earlier Saturday as police scrambled to find the shooter, the small city about 60 miles (97 kilometers) waited and anxious. “It was the world knocking on our doorstep, and it came into our little community”.
The mall attack followed a series of violent outbursts at shopping centers across the United States, including the stabbing of nine people at a Minnesota center last weekend.
As she drove home later, she had to pull over because she was shaking so hard, she told The Associated Press. It said a news conference would be held on Saturday night.
A day after five people were shot dead in a Burlington, Wash., mall, authorities arrested a man they say was behind the rampage.
Several other Seattle news organizations have reported the three other victims are Sarai Lara, a Mount Vernon High School student, Chuck Eagan, a longtime Boeing employee, and Shayla Martin.
The teen survived cancer and was told by her doctor that she was doing well, Evangelina Lara told The Seattle Times ( https://goo.gl/YMQvxk) through a translator.
