Brescia University was ranked 13th for Best Bang for the Buck in the South, Murray State University 24th, Georgetown College 39th, Asbury University 40th, Transylvania University 42nd, Campbellsville University 44th and Western Kentucky University 50th.
Northwestern is ranked third in its category in community service participation and fourth in the rate of student loan repayment. Carey, guest editor of Washington Monthly’s college guide, directs the education policy program at New America, a think tank and civic enterprise in Washington, D.C. “To be recognized for the value we offer students through affordability and social mobility shows that we are accomplishing our university’s mission to serve the best and brightest students from one of the most underserved regions in the state”. “They vary in how successfully they help students graduate and pay back loans, but their common thread is a high population of Pell-eligible students and unusually low net prices for students who aren’t well-to-do-the legacy of California’s historical commitment to accessible higher education, one that remains threatened by economic and budgetary pressures in the Golden State”.
The university made the 25th spot alongside seven Ivy League Institutions across the country. Public institutions like Buffalo State exist to serve the public good of the communities they anchor. Eleven of the top 20 universities in the Washington Monthly rankings have some taxpayer support.
Fresno State has been selected as a top university by Washington Monthly magazine.
