“No. 1, we’ve never seen him”. “He reminds me of the old Mets, like Tom Seaver and Gary Gentry and those guys”.

“Like we said in Spring Training, the team that wins one-run games is usually the one that’s out in front and going to stay out front”.

Baltimore’s Dylan Bundy outpitched A.J. Cole, but Cole’s effort could be felt throughout the remainder of the home-and-home series.

“It was one of those nights I had to battle”.

“The results were not what I expected”, Lopez said through an interpreter. “I had to battle through a leadoff walk, a leadoff double, stuff like that”.

Baltimore came into its game against near neighbor Washington with five losses from six games but arrested that slide thanks to the long shots by Trumbo and Jonathan Schoop. The series shifts 38 miles south to Nationals Park on Wednesday for the first of two games.

Assessing his performance, Cole said, “They hit some good pitches, a couple of pitches I’d take back”. “So in that situation I kind of told myself to check him”. “And if there’s just something a little off and he thinks it’s off, and he starts to worry about maybe he’s going down a slippery slope, and he knows what he had to go through to get back here and that whole Tommy John thing, I don’t mind that at all, especially if it’s going to make him 97, 98 in October in the playoffs”. But star relievers Brad Brach and Zach Britton sealed the deal for Baltimore in the eighth and ninth innings.

The right-hander was willing to pitch through the pain for the NL East-leading Nationals, but manager Dusty Baker had other plans.

Baltimore Orioles’ Mark Trumbo, right, celebrates his two-run home run with Chris Davis (19) during the fourth inning of a baseball game against the Washington Nationals, Monday, Aug. 22, 2016, in Baltimore.

Indeed, Strasburg returned from his second DL stint in 2015 with electric stuff, going 6-2 with a 1.90 ERA and 92 strikeouts over his final 10 starts. “Great poise and great command against a very good offense”. You’ve got to be ready.

Washington got to Bundy in the first.

The Nationals jumped on top in the first inning when Murphy singled for his career-high 90th RBI.

Schoop tied it with his 20th homer in the third inning.

Two rookie pitchers with plenty of hope for the future could end up playing big roles this year for the Orioles and Nationals.

Manny Machado opened the Baltimore fourth by lining a double off the left field wall. C Francisco Pena, who was recalled from Triple-A Norfolk on Saturday, will remain with the team.

The Rangers will have to make a corresponding move on their 40-man roster before today’s game for Holland, who has been on the 60-day disabled list because of left shoulder inflammation.
