Washington’s presidential primary only counts for the GOP
For Bexar County Democrats there are a couple of high-interest races including the open state representative seat for District 120 and the race to be the next sheriff.

For state office on the Republican ticket, Wayne Christian and Gary Gates are vying for the nomination for Railroad Commissioner after fighting off five other challengers in the March 1 primary race. And it’s the last day for voters to switch their party affiliation.
Two Democrats – Angela Pendley of Grantville and Newnan pastor Tamarkus Cook – are also seeking Westmoreland’s Republican-leaning House seat. If no candidate gets more than 50 percent and two candidates get more than 20 percent, the one with the most gets two delegates. Those delegates are allocated proportionally to candidates with at least 20 percent of the statewide vote. Republicans in Harris County have a party leadership contest to decide.
Washington has both a presidential primary and a caucus system.
Unopposed by Republicans or Democrats since he first won office in 2010, GOP Rep. Austin Scott of Tifton is facing his first re-election challenger in the 8th District, Macon business owner Angela Hicks.
Texas holds its primary runoff election on Tuesday, May 24. Superdelegates are technically unpledged party and elected leaders, but a majority of them – including Gov. Jay Inslee and the state’s Congressional delegation – have already said they support Clinton. The final GOP nominee will face one of two Democratic primary hopefuls in November. Last year, Republican Secretary of State Kim Wyman had sought to move the primary to earlier in the year, to March.
