London’s Tower Bridge will be illuminated in the colors of France’s flag as the city joins other capitals in lighting landmarks to show solidarity with the 127 victims of the terror attacks in Paris.
De Blasio said there are 1,500 NYPD officers dedicated to thwarting, preventing and detecting terrorism in the city.
At least 128 people were killed and several hundred were killed in coordinated gun-and-explosives attacks on a Paris concert hall, restaurants and the Stade de France stadium.
“These were cowardly acts of evil by people who have inexplicably chosen to believe in radical hatred above all else”, Cuomo said. It was just a sense that this kind of thing isn’t really a surprise anymore.
I didn’t feel afraid, and I would not have cut my trip short if I wasn’t returning today. “We want our freedom to sustain”, also added in his speech.
“This attack is being claimed by the group calling themselves “Islamic State”, said Muslim Council of Britain’s Secretary General Shuja Shafi.
For French citizens who said they felt powerless an ocean away from loved ones in Paris, the moments of solidarity with New Yorkers and their fellow countrymen were greatly needed. “Before residing at London, I had been living in southeast of Paris and I can predict the happenings in there”, said in his speech.
Public figures including Queen Elizabeth II, Prime Minister David Cameron and former footballer David Beckham have all lined up to pay tribute the victims of the atrocities in Paris.
“We don’t know what to do, because what are we going to do now?” asked one young woman. Our thoughts are with you all… We stand ready to help in any way we can. Not to go to the extreme like they (terrorists) are.
“They will not succeed”.
“My advice would be to stay strong and continue, as much as possible, life as usual”, he said. She is due to give a speech in Edinburgh this evening where she will call for unity in the wake of the attacks.
