Francis said authorities believe there was one shooter.

“Probably one of the most hard moments for us last night was knowing that there were family members wondering about their loved ones in there”, Mount Vernon police Lt. Chris Cammock said.

Authorities said they found a rifle on the scene.

At the news conference Saturday night, Mayor Steve Sexton of Burlington said the shootings happened at a time and in a setting that were ordinary: a Friday night at a mall.

Five victims – four females and a male – were killed after a gunman described as wearing a black T-shirt and black shorts opened fire inside a Macy’s department store in the mall. Police Lt. Chris Cammock said the suspect walked into the mall without a weapon – and “about 10 minutes later, entered Macy’s with a rifle”, Merrit says.

Cetin will be booked into Skagit County Jail on an investigative hold before he is formally charged.

“One of the most hard moments last night was knowing there was family out there anxious about their loved ones”, Lieutenant Cammock said. “We could certainly use the community’s help”.

An FBI spokesman said on Saturday that although the bureau could not rule out terrorism as a motive for the shooting, there was no evidence to suggest that it was.

An individual has been taken into custody following the horrifying shooting that killed 5 at a Macy’s store in Washington on September 23.

As she drove home later, she had to pull over because she was shaking so hard, she told The Associated Press.

Police first said Cetin is Hispanic, but according to his Facebook page, Cetin is originally from Turkey. They escorted shoppers and workers who had sheltered in place outside.

Multiple agencies were engaged in trying to track down the unidentified suspect, Johnson said, adding that there is “just a lot of law enforcement in the area”.

Anxious residents fear for their safety with the gunman still on the loose.

Residents of the town of about 8,600 turned to each other for comfort at a community gathering in a city park.

Evangelina Lara says it was confirmed at 2 a.m. Saturday that her daughter was among the five people killed. “I don’t know what his motivation was to continue, I don’t know what his motivation was to stop, but I certainly intend to find out”.

This is the second mall attack in the United States in recent days.

“We urge residents to heed all safety and detour warnings”.

“Follow detour warnings, stay close to friends and loved ones as we await more information and, hopefully, news of the suspect’s capture”, he tweeted.
