Wasserman Schultz role with Clinton campaign angers some NH Sanders delegates

Wasserman Schultz has been under pressure to resign as chair for months amid accusations that she had unfairly tilted the DNC against Sanders by packing the committee with Clinton-ites.

Efforts to promote party togetherness were not helped by the publication last week of thousands of hacked emails, some of which suggested the DNC was favoring Clinton during the primary season.

Pro-Sanders delegates in Philadelphia reportedly cheered the release of the news. “So I don’t know where this came from, but to all of, she never, never, said vote for one over another”.

Wasserman Schultz’s swift ouster underscores party leaders’ desire to avoid convention confrontations with Sanders’ loyal supporters.

The message was met with chaos though, as people in support and opposed to Wasserman Schultz crowded up to the stage, holding signs, chanting, and ignoring calls to quiet down to allow the program to continue.

There could yet be tension, however.

As aftershocks from the #DNCLeaks controversy blanketed media and the Democratic Party, both ABC and CNN cut ties with Brazile, and it remained unclear how much of a role Debbie Wasserman Schultz would retain as the convention kicked off. Sanders supporters charged that the DNC was biased toward Clinton, and Sanders late in the primary endorsed DNC chair Debbie Wassserman Schultz’s primary opponent in her Florida congressional race.

But Jeff Weaver, the Sanders campaign chairman – Wasserman Schultz called him an “ass” in one of the emails – told MSNBC that the resignation was a smart move, signaling that Sanders supporters were set to end the tensions.

President Obama, who appointed Wasserman Schultz in 2011, praised her service, saying the Florida congresswoman’s “leadership of the DNC has meant that we had someone who brought Democrats together”.

He said her support for the Obama administration’s Iran nuclear deal has upset some Jewish voters. Now, Wasserman Schultz will be a big part of the story all week.

“I’ve been at private events where I’ve asked her, we’ve asked about Hillary vs Bernie, and I can tell you that my congresswoman told everyone that the both of them are a great pick, both of them are wonderful”. The reasoning then was that Clinton was a poor debater. The disclosures forced the resignation of DNC chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz. At a news conference Sunday, Sanders delegate Norman Solomon, 65, of Point Reyes Station, California, said many of Sanders’ liberal supporters were disappointed in Clinton’s vice presidential pick of Virginia Sen.

Wasserman Schultz’s departure follows an uproar over the almost 20,000 emails released by Wikileaks that revealed efforts were discussed by party staffers to seemingly undermine the candidacy of Sanders, the Vermont senator who was runner-up to Clinton in the Democratic presidential campaign. A leak of DNC staff emails, some disrespectful toward Sanders, broke just before delegates gathered in Philadelphia. One man carried a sign that read, “Democracy is dead, Bernie won”.

Miranda responded noting that Wasserman Schultz “already went to Chuck”, a reference to MSNBC’s Chuck Todd, moderator of “Meet the Press”.

“Her fundraising and organizing skills were matched only by her passion, her commitment and her warmth”, he said Sunday.
