With his son’s help, he is now making a comeback on YouTube under the same name, while raising more than £35,000 for the Alzheimer’s Society.
Ted had a lengthy career as an entertainer, including working as a Butlin’s Redcoat.
You can donate to Simon and Ted’s campaign and watch more of their videos on their Facebook page.
Having been a performer for almost all of his life, Ted was given the nickname “The Songaminute Man” due to the huge amount of songs in his repertoire.
His son Simon chose to have a sing-song with him during a drive to Blackburn in May, which has taken the internet by storm.
“He was having quite a hard day, but I had his backing tracks with him and we just put them on”.
“In the last few years his memory has deteriorated a lot – often not recognising me as his son”. The son said that as the disease progressed, his father became both physically and verbally violent ― something that could be challenging to deal with at times. “And terrifying at times”. “It’s a awful illness”, Mac wrote.
Recently, the US Swim team did their own version which featured the Olympians such as Michael Phelps and Katie Ledecky singing their hearts out.
“It’s these moments that we treasure”, reads his Facebook page.
James Cordon’s Carpool Karaoke, which has starred celebrities such as Justin Bieber and First Lady Michelle Obama, has taken a new British twist after Simon McDermott posted videos of duets with his father to raise money for Alzheimer’s Society.

Simon, 40, has shared his reasons for supporting the charity on his Just Giving page. “Songaminute” is an inspiring and touching idea that is not only raising vital funds for the charity, but also highlighting the positive impact that listening to music and singing can have for people with dementia”.
