Watch Derrick Henry’s family react to him winning the Heisman

Before Florida’s Tim Tebow won it in 2007, only one SEC player had won the Heisman in the previous 21 years (the Gators’ Danny Wuerffel in 1996). Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson (1,165) was third in the voting.

“Bring it back to Alabama and let it join Mark Ingram”, the running back from Yulee High said. He ran for over 1,000 yards five times and recorded 9,407 rushing yards in nine seasons before being inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1991. And the number of backs who, one week later, in a conference championship game, could carry the ball 44 more times for another 189 yards, is one.

FILE – In this Saturday, Sept. 12, 2015, file photo, Penn State defensive end Carl Nassib (95) celebrates his second half interception with defensive end Garrett Sickels (90) during an NCAA college football game against Buffalo in State College, Pa. Nassib has been named to the AP All-America football team.

Texas A&M freshman receiver Christian Kirk was selected as newcomer of the year. Among the lessons he learned from his father was to do everything at 100 percent.

“The fans supported me and showed so much love”, Henry said.

The Stanford running back – his listed position is woefully lacking as a proper description of his real role – took a pitch from the quarterback in a November game against Colorado at Folsom Field. “It’s hard to see her like that but I know she’ll get through it, man. I’m just thankful for all of that”, Henry said in reaction to the video. Henry also won the Doak Walker Award for Best Running Back.

LAS VEGAS – Conor McGregor backed up every word he ever said to Jose Aldo with one spectacular punch.

“It’s kind of a surreal feeling that somebody that I played with is up for this really prestigious award”, said Dillon Reinkensmeyer, a senior who played with McCaffrey. “You can label me anything really, and I don’t really listen a whole lot to all that stuff”. You always told me to keep God first and pray that I always make it far.

Having such a versatile option on offense has changed Stanford’s game over the last season.

Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze sent out a release through the school on Sunday saying “We are still learning about the matter, but obviously Robert’s wellbeing is our greatest concern”. “We didn’t ask him to play football”, Ed McCaffrey said.

His first breakout performance came on October 15 against UCLA.

Despite all of his success, McCaffrey didn’t win the Heisman.

One special November afternoon performance embodied the dynamics of the 2015 Heisman race. Now sure, Stanford’s record-breaking back wasn’t the goal-line guy. Now, he’s the best player in the nation.

“McCaffrey, by contrast, broke Barry Sanders” 28-year record with 3,496 all-purpose yards. Instead he threw a 28-yard touchdown. McCaffrey scored a rushing, passing and receiving touchdown in the game.

“Now I know what it takes”, McCaffrey said about becoming a finalist, “following with anything less than that is unacceptable for me”.

The Florida native then thanked his teammates, brothers, other family members and his college and high school coaches for helping him to get to this point.
