In the one level demo you play as Cloud or Tifa, or co-op locally (you need at least one controller to go with your keyboard). Regardless, if the footage of the above gameplay is any indication of what a final version looks like, then Final Fantasy fans should be in for a treat. The two playable characters are Cloud Strife and Tifa.

A group of Final Fantasy VII fans have been working on a turning the game into a 2D action game under the title Final Fantasy VII: Re-Imagined. You will need an updated Unity web player plug-in, and while the game does have few bugs here and there, it’s actually fairly smooth.

Players’ attacks will be enhanced by the Materia they’ve equipped. Fire Materia creates a fire ball that moves slowly to hit enemies along its path. An explosion at the end deals extra damage. We re-imagined how the game would be like if it’s an action game. It’s a fan-made project (and as such, is likely to be shut down by Square Enix within the week) that turns the RPG in to a side-scrolling brawler, not too dissimilar to things like Golden Axe, Capcom’s excellent Dungeons and Dragons games, or Streets of Rage.
