Watch footage from an unannounced, unreleased South Park game

A playable alpha build of an unreleased “South Park” game has been found on an original Xbox developer kit. While an open-world South Park game may happen at some point, the next game adaptation of the hit comedy, South Park: The Fractured but Whole, is slated for release in 2016.

Of course, as any video game history buff will be able to tell you, such a game did not ship at all – which means it never made it to store shelves.

South Park” has always been a household name after 19 years on the air, a critically acclaimed movie, and six different video games with a new one on the way. They described it as a cross between GTA and Simpson’s Hit & Run, with players having free-roam of the world of South Park, though a lot of textures are missing. The objective of the level seems to echo the classic South Park episode “Up the Down Steroid”, spawning Cartman in front of a chalk board that reads “Find retard costume” and “Get on short bus”, but attempting to grab the level’s objective will cause the alpha to crash. The game also contained a combat system and split-screen mode, although some features of the alpha build could not be accessed due to frequent crashing. The title was in development by Buzz Monkey Software, whose game credits include porting games in the Tomb Raider series as well as Army of Two: The 40th Day.
