Watch Glasgow’s Red Road tower blocks demolished in seven seconds changing
THIS is the stunning moment that the iconic Red Road flats were brought down.

The six blocks of flats were brought down as part of Glasgow Housing Association (GHA) plans to regenerate the Balornock and Barmulloch areas.
The first of the blocks was demolished in 2012, and a second followed in 2013.
Six tower blocks were due to be razed to the ground but two remain standing after the upper floors landed upright as the lower section was blown away.
After the controlled explosion 10 storeys of the blocks will remain and will be demolished using machinery at a later stage.
Around 1,000 households were forced to leave their homes during the demolition, with a few residents anxious about damage to homes within the exclusion zone. Over the next few days the contractors, Safedem, will carry out a review to determine the best way of now completing the demolition.
“We’d like to thank all of the residents again for their patience and understanding during this important part of the community regeneration project”.

The 1960s blocks were once seen as the solution to the city’s housing problem and at one point were the tallest residential buildings in Europe.
