Watch Hideo Kojima and Guillermo del Toro chat live from DICE

“A Conversation with Hideo Kojima and Guillermo del Toro” is scheduled to kick off at 1:45 p.m. PT and run about 45 minutes. We particularly like the bit where Guillermo del Toro talks about singing anime themes with Kojima in karaoke bars.

It looks the dream team behind the cancelled Silent Hills could be getting back together, as Kojima gives hints on his “edgy” new game.

Also: “A lot of freedom”. I go with Kojima, you know what happened.

When asked about what the collaboration process for Silent Hills’ playable teaser (AKA PT) was like, del Toro’s face lit up, as he began recounting its inspirations and intentions, and the grandiose plans he and Kojima-san had for the final product.

Del Toro also took the opportunity to encourage developers to push ahead with their innovative ideas – even if financial success is less assured. It is probably going to be really tough.

Kojima said he feels “extremely free” in his new studio.

Kojima and del Toro will be joined by journalist and host Geoff Keighley to “revisit some of their fondest memories from their own individual careers as well as some of the pivotal moments from each other’s work that remain a constant source of inspiration”, according to the official DICE Summit website. “I don’t care what it is”. “Whatever he says, I’ll do”. Now, with an independent studio and a deal with Sony to make a PlayStation 4 game, Kojima has more leeway to pair up with other creators and work on passion projects.

Thankfully, it seems that del Toro’s aversion to game development has an exception. During this, they made many a fan’s dream come true, as real life fan fiction became a surreal reality: confirming that a project will eventually, sweetly inevitably, be in the works.

“I was thinking in my first year out I would make something indie, something small, maybe a game or a movie”. I have to create something I want to play, something I want people to play, and figure out ways that it will be a hit to market. Like I did in the past, I want to make something that has a very strong, dramatic story.

Coinciding with Kojima’s DICE show was the publication of a few interviews on video game websites.
