Jakub Kindl scored the lone goal for the Red Wings (4-4-1). Once it was over, Detroit went on the power play for a minute, but didn’t make much of it. With the succession from their PK unit, the Hurricanes continued to gain confidence on the offense.

Rask has three goals and an assist through nine games this season. This was the only goal for the Hurricanes that included helpers.

Hainsey’s slap shot beat a screened Mrazek for the tiebreaking score at 4:36 of the third.

The Wings had won one of their last five before Tuesday, and they still couldn’t get off the ground. “I just know he seems to be progressing and that’s a positive thing”. “Got a lot on it (the shot)… got it by him”. “It was a handle-able puck, we didn’t handle it and it was kind of a seeing-eye shot”.

The Canes held on the rest of the way and Eric Staal would put the game away with an empty-netter near the end. At 19 years old he is second on his team in scoring, and first in shots on goal. I hit the guy and it bounced and went in. “That was a mistake”, Mrazek said.

The Wings took advantage of a Carolina turnover to tie it on Kindl’s shot from the point with 2:16 left. Mrazek, on the first goal, “It shouldn’t happen”.

“It’s not bad, it’s not great either”.
