The University of Houston athletics department and university police are investigating the actions of contracted security personnel after they became physical with fans who attempted to celebrate the Cougars’ American Athletic Conference championship win against Temple on Saturday by running onto the field.
North Carolina’s Ryan Switzer hauled in his second TD catch of the game with 1:13 left to cut Clemson’s lead to eight and give the Tigers a scare.
Defending an accomplished dual-threat quarterback has been Temple’s kryptonite all season, and the latest dose was served up by a 5-foot-11, 185-pound dynamo from Houston.
The fans that made it to the field surrounded the stage when the championship trophy was presented.
Greg Ward, Jr. ran for 148 yards and two touchdowns to secure Houston’s spot as the Group of Five representative and earn the Cougars a trip to either the Peach Bowl or Fiesta Bowl.
At the end of No. 18 Houston’s 24-13 victory against the No. 21 Owls, Contemporary Services Corporation (CSC) Event staffers appeared to aggressively punch and tackle fans.
Later in the half, Ward made it 17-0 with his ninth run of 30 or more yards this season. “The only way they could stop me was when they were bringing over Cover 2… but I don’t think they stood a chance today”. The Cougars will likely win a bid to make a New Year’s Six Bowl game appearance and the students were understandably excited.

Redshirt freshman Christian Chapman threw for 203 yards and one touchdown in his first start for the Aztecs (10-3), who won their ninth straight game. The Owls had a fourth and 8 from the 22 but elected to take the points instead of going for the first down.
