Bieber has donated $10,000 to the organization and his grandmother contributed several of the pop star’s childhood items for the group to auction on eBay.
He performed a mix of his hits as well as holiday tunes, wearing a tuque, hoodie, black jeans and sneakers.
It was his smallest hometown show in years (though Bieber is in fact from Stratford, Ontario; proceeds from last night’s show benefited the Stratford House of Blessing) and came just three weeks after the release of objective, his fourth studio album, which was quickly punted from chart and sales dominance by Adele’s 25.
“His mother used our services when he was little and it’s their way of giving back to their community”, said the group’s executive director Theresa McMurray.
During the show, Bieber covered Drake’s ubiquitous hit “Hotline Bling” and Beatles classic “Let It Be”, the latter performed on piano. You guys are special, very special…
“I’m (a) big (fan), but after today, I’ve seen way crazier, to a whole other level”. The money was raised from the sale of half the concert tickets at C$100 ($74) apiece (the remaining tickets were distributed to radio and TV for contest giveaways and promos).
Danielle Leonard, 15, from Richmond Hill, Ont., called it a “once-in-a-lifetime experience”. “In 2014, we helped 3,701 families, so that represents 6,687 people that we provided food for”.
