Watch live coverage of launch of Mercedes-Benz GLC in India
The Mercedes Benz GLC-Class has been offered with two engine options, a 2.2-liter 4-cylinder diesel, producing 170 BHP of power and a healthy 400 Nm of torque, while the petrol motor is a 2.0-liter unit, churning out 245 BHP of power and 375 Nm of peak torque. The GLC will come in both the petrol and diesel powertrains and we got our hands on the diesel version. However, the Mercedes GLC has the longest wheelbase in its segment, which suggests better interior space. It gets five driving modes namely, Comfort, Eco, Sport, Sport Plus and Individual. It is based on the MRA platform which underpins the Mercedes C-Class sedan as well. Both the engines are mated to newly developed 9-speed 9G-TRONIC automatic gearbox. It also gets three modes to be selected for off-road driving conditions.

The Mercedes Benz GLC-Class is the global successor of the erstwhile GLK, which never did reach our shores.
Mercedes will bring the initial few units of the GLC, called the Edition1, as CBU (Completely Built Up) units and will start assembling the same in India by the end of this year.
Introduction of these cars also fills the gap in the company’s SUV portfolio, making Mercedes-Benz luxury auto manufacturer with the most extensive range of SUVs, ranging from the GLA to the iconic AMG G 63, he said.
As for pricing, the Mercedes GLC manages to undercut the older Audi Q5, but is slightly higher than the BMW X3 and the 147 hp variant of the LR Discovery Sport.

With 7 airbags inside, the Mercedes GLC boasts of 5 star safety rating in EURO NCAP 2015. Moreover, the option of the petrol engine is certain to boost its value proposition also given the current uncertainty around diesel in the Indian market. The luxury vehicle is available in both – petrol and diesel variant; the former priced at Rs 50.90 lakhs and the latter priced at Rs 50.70 lakhs.
