More than a million people are expected to crowd into New York City’s Times Square under heavy security on Thursday to celebrate the arrival of 2016 with the traditional dropping of the New Year’s Eve crystal ball.

This year, Philips Lighting has introduced a new app that will allow consumers who use hue lighting to sync their home lighting systems to the ball as it counts down to 2016.
“We know how to do big events, we’ve shown it time and time again”, said New York Mayor Bill DeBlasio.
In Germany, police on Thursday night local time evacuated two Munich train stations over what police called “an active threat of a terror attack in the Munich area”.
“We are not aware of any threat at this time that we deem credible”, he said.
They said they’re not anxious about security, and the NYPD says they shouldn’t be. Emanuel Lutchman, 25, was charged with attempting to provide material support to ISIS.
At least 6,000 patrol officers will be assigned to the festivities.
If you are going to be near a television on New Year’s Eve, the festivities will be broadcast on ABC and NBC.
The Hollywood Reporter compiled a guide to New Year’s Eve TV specials and programs, which will feature performances by Carrie Underwood, Gwen Stefani, Demi Lovato, One Direction and Earth, Wind & Fire and many more. Still, the city’s firework display on the Champs-Élysées was canceled in the wake of the November 13 terror attacks that killed 130 people. “There’ll be obvious security measures you will see, and a number of measures you won’t see”. Armed police stood guard in Beijing’s commercial districts.
An estimated 1 million people are expected to be there before midnight, despite a year of headlines about extremist attacks.
