Watch Matt Damon heckle Jimmy Kimmel for losing Emmy Award

FX true crime television series The People v OJ Simpson: American Crime Story scored a total of four wins – best limited series, best actor for Courtney B Vance, best actress for Sarah Paulson and best supporting actor for Sterling K Brown – while other winners included Rami Malek as best lead actor in a drama series for Mr Robot and Tatiana Maslany as best lead actress in a drama for Orphan Black.

With their impressive haul, Game of Thrones is now the most awarded scripted series in Emmys history, surpassing the previous record-holder, beloved sitcom Frasier, which has an overall total of 37 wins.

The People v. O.J. Simpson, which earned the second-highest number of nominations, converted five to trophies on Sunday.

– Sarah Paulson, who won an Emmy for portraying Clark in The People vs. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story, apologizing to the prosecutor who she brought to the gala for misjudging her.

The series already became the most-honoured drama series after picking up nine Emmys at the Creative Arts ceremony last weekend.

This year, however, the series lost in the drama acting categories, which were far from predictable. Malek, of USA’s thriller “Mr. Robot”, and Maslany of “Orphan Black” won the top acting trophies for drama series.

“Oh, my God. Please tell me you’re seeing this too, ” said a stunned Malek, who plays an emotionally troubled engineer caught up in a risky hacking conspiracy.

Veep’s Julia Louis-Dreyfus managed to get laughs and tears during her acceptance speech.

“I’d also like to take this opportunity to personally apologise for the current political climate”. “Our show started out as a political satire but it now feels more like a sobering documentary”.

She promised to rebuild the wall between comedy and politics and “make Mexico pay for it”.

A shaking Louis-Dreyfus ended her speech by dedicating the trophy to her father, who she said died on Friday.

The award for best actor in a comedy went for the second year in a row to Jeffrey Tambor for “Transparent”, who pleaded with producers and directors to give transgender talent a chance in television.

Actor Matt Damon jokes around with show host Jimmy Kimmel at the 68th Primetime Emmy Awards in Los Angeles, California September 19, 2016.

“Transparent” creator Jill Soloway, who won a statuette for directing, likened the bombastic tycoon to Adolf Hitler and called him a “dangerous monster”.

The Downton Abbey actress stayed away from the Los Angeles ceremony, where she won a best supporting actress gong for her role as Violet Crawley, Dowager Countess of Grantham, in the hit period drama.

Congratulations on your Emmy, Kate!

Ben Mendelsohn of “Bloodline” won best supporting drama actor. The feud reached a new level of outrageousness when Matt Damon walked up on stage just after the host of the night failed to take home the Emmy for Best Variety Talk Series.
