Moving to special teams, a mediocre showing in the return game was masked by Dustin Hopkins’ steady play. Certainly they can’t do that this week, against a Washington Redskins team who is struggling also.
Washington’s 6.3 yards per pass attempt is last in the NFL. They will have a lot of opportunities to score against a vulnerable Saints defense, and they will have to convert these into points if they want to come away with a home win.
Things would only get better for the defense as they looked to have forced another three-and-out for the Saints.
It was a touching moment post-game for the Cousins, with Don clearly appreciating the gesture when Kirk walked over to the crowd, gave him a hug and the ball. Jordan Reed is back from his concussion troubles and – from what the coaches are saying – DeSean Jackson finally looks healthy.

The New Orleans Saints’ 47-14 loss Sunday against the Washington Redskins extended a run of a few ugly defensive play by the Saints. The Saints’ defense ran like a sieve, and everything that Washington did got huge chunks of yardage. We’re playing another future Hall of Fame quarterback in Drew Brees and an excellent coach in Sean Payton. It took numerous weeks and a shoulder injury for it all to come together, but it seems to have done exactly that. WR Willie Snead, a second-year pro with no previous regular-season National Football League experience, leads the club with 626 yards receiving, while WR Brandon Cooks is No. 1 in catches with 45. Jones alone probably topped 100 yards after the catch on three receptions. It covered 96 yards in 10 plays, the team’s longest drive in 15 years – since a 98-yarder against the NY Giants in December 2000 – and ended with Cousins’ 16-yarder to Reed.
It doesn’t get much more ideal than that, and it was two touchdowns from Brees to Cooks before we even got to halftime. Can Kirk Cousins take advantage of a less-than-impressive opposing defensive front?
