Watch Stephen Colbert crash the Republican National Convention

A viral video featuring the host of The Late Show With Stephen Colbert was posted to YouTube a day prior to the Republican National Convention in Ohio.

Donning the coiffure and suit of Caesar Flickman from the Hunger Games, Colbert can be heard announcing, with gravitas, that Trump “has formed an alliance with Indiana Governor Mike Pence”. [Long pause …] Sorry, I blacked out there for a second.

We don’t know how much the RNC knew about Colbert’s stunt before it happened, but we do know it brought some well-needed entertainment and nostalgia for Colbert Report antics. It looks like no hard feelings were had, as Colbert was seen taking photos afterwards with people in attendance.

It’s unclear whether the Late Show host actually crashed the RNC – in the video, the arena is empty and the convention doesn’t kick off until Monday. A few spit takes later Stewart and Colbert are trading back and forth a few “that Donald Trump!?”s and it feels like old times”. During those four days, the Republican National Committee is hosting about 2,470 delegates and 2,302 alternate delegates from all 50 states, the District of Columbia and five territories.

Colbert is doing his Late Show live this week, following GOP convention coverage.

His return wasn’t the only nice surprise, with current Colbert having to summon old Colbert from a secluded cabin, where a bare-chested Jon Stewart and he had been living together (drinking urine).

Before he could continue to mock Republican politicians from their own convention stage, he was escorted off stage by what appeared to be a member of security staff. We’re also excited to watch The Late Show again, and we’re excited about the fact that we’re excited about that.
